Man arrested for allegedly kidnapping two girls in Kirinyaga

Police officers in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, are holding a middle-aged man accused of kidnapping two girls.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday after detectives tracked him to Kimunye in Gichugu Constituency, roughly 40 kilometers away from Mwatheini village where the girls were allegedly kidnapped.

On Sunday evening, a day after the suspect’s arrest, the minors aged 12 and 2 years were reportedly found dumped near Kimbimbi trading center.

The two, who also happen to be sisters, went missing on Sunday December 29, 2019 after attending church service; with the kidnapper demanding a ransom of Ksh.200,000.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the children’s father said they had lost hope after a fruitless search for his daughters, adding that “we have been praying day and night.”

Celebrations rocked Mwatheini village in Mwea for the better part of Sunday evening and Monday morning after the siblings were found.

The suspect is being held at the Wang’uru Police Station.
