Man arrested for impersonating Kenya Power employee

A middle-aged man has been arrested for forging the identity of Kenya Power’s General Manager in charge of Human Resources and Administration to falsely offer unsuspecting persons employment.

The suspect, Curtis Kanyingi, was arrested and booked at Nyeri Police Station. He is expected to appear in court Friday.

“The person had assumed the identity of Kenya Power’s General Manager for Human Resources and Administration Mr Abubakar Swaleh and offering employment to one Titus Gitimu. He was arrested for the offence of conning, obtaining by false pretense, forgery and handling forged documents,” said Kenya Power’s Acting Security Services Manager, Major (Rtd.) Geoffrey Kigen.

According to the forged employment letter dated May 3rd, 2016, Mr Gitimu was deceived that his application for employment in Kenya Power had been approved and that he had secured a job as a driver.

In the past, Kenya Power has been faced with various incidences where criminals dupe members of the public that they are company officials and that they will aid their electricity connection, among other actions, creating an avenue for conning the victims.

The company urges the public to make any payments due to Kenya Power at any of its offices countrywide or selected banks and ensure that they obtain a receipt for any cash transaction to avoid being victims of fraud.
