Man arrested for slashing teen daughter for talking to a boy

A 48-year-old man is being held at Wang’uru Police Station in Mwea, Kirinyaga County after he was arrested Saturday night for allegedly assaulting his 15-year-old daughter after he spotted her speaking to a fellow student, who happened to be a boy.

The man, identified as Bassel Kamau Nyaga, is accused of inflicting panga cuts on her daughter over what he termed as befriending a male classmate.

Mwea East OCPD, Kizito Mutoro, said that Kamau was arrested on Saturday evening following a tip off from a village elder who raised an alarm after he heard continuous screams from the school-going girl.

According to Kizito, Kamau – a farmer in Garama South location – was arrested for allegedly wounding his daughter three times using a sharp panga after he met her talking to a neighbor’s boy on her way from school.

The OCPD said that the girl suffered major cuts on the head, the right leg and the right hand. The suspect was allegedly disciplining his daughter over accusing her of being a lover to the boy.

The girl was treated at a local hospital and discharged with doctors confirming that she was out of danger.

“The girl was treated and released to go home after the doctors confirmed that she was in a stable condition,” noted Kizito.

The OCPD called on parents to look for better ways of instilling discipline in their children without harming them.

The girl is a form two student in a day secondary school in Murinduko area.
