Man arrested in Kericho over inciteful social media post

Police in Kericho have arrested a social media user for allegedly posting inciteful statements on social media.

Dennis Kiptoo Mutai was arrested on Tuesday in Kericho town after being on the run for six days according to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission.

In a statement signed by Hassan Mohamed, the Commission’s Secretary, Mutai will answer to charges of ethnic contempt contravening provision of the National Cohesion and Integration Act 2008.

“Mr. Kiptoo was arrested this afternoon in Kericho town and is currently recording a statement at the DCI office in Kericho,” reads the statement.

The commission did not share the alleged social media post.

“NCIC continues to condemn increasing level of ethnic and political polarization; intolerance and hooliganism during this phase of heightened 2022 succession politics. We have noted with concern that the prevailing political situation in the country is at most irresponsible, unfortunate and untenable…,” reads the statement.

“Therefore, the Commission together with other security agencies will not relent in ensuring that hatemongers face the law. We are calling on all Kenyans to embrace tolerance, restrain and respect diversity.”
