Man arrested over possession of illicit brew

A middle-aged man is being held at Kabuchonge Police Station after he was found in possession of 1,435 litres of illicit brew on Sunday morning.

An eyewitness told Citizen Digital that the suspect was arrested at Nasianda Village in Tongaren, Bungoma County with 700 litres of kangara, 500 litres of busaa, and 200 litres of muna and 35 litres of chang’aa.

Confirming the arrest, area chief John Okiring’i said the suspect will be arraigned in court on Monday.

Elsewhere in Bungoma County, police nabbed chang’aa worth Sh145,000 along Lusaka road, Administration Police Commander Paul Soi revealed.

The police boss detailed that they recovered 95 litres of chang’aa, adding that 55 litres was packed in 5 litre cans, 20 litres wrapped in paper bags and the rest was packed in a 20 litre container respectively.

The ongoing crackdown on illicit brew has resulted in the destruction of millions of litres of illict brew and second-generation alcohol.

The crackdown began following an order by President Kenyatta banning second-generation alcohol and illicit brew.
