Man arrested over rape, murder in Kirinyaga
Police officers in Kirinyaga County on Thursday arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly raping and killing Githure Primary School headmistress on Sunday.
Kirinyaga Police Commander Joseph Nthenge said the man attacked the teacher in her compound while she was heading to the bathroom.
Nthenge said the man hit the headmistress on the back with a blunt object before proceeding to rape her while unconsious.
The officer claimed the suspect went ahead and rapped another 70-year-old woman.
The elderly woman was admitted at Mwea Mission Hospital and is still receiving treatment.
“The boy who killed the teacher has been arrested through cooperation with the local residents and was found in their home,” said Nthenge.
Confirming the incident, Gichugu MP Njogu Barua lauded the security forces for nabbing the suspect.
“We want thorough investigations carried out,” said Barua.
