Man beaten severely, hospitalised over ugali

A 25-year-old man is recuperating at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital after he was battered and injured by his brother for allegedly eating his ugali.

Kennedy Kipchumba Kogo, from Kaptel Village of Nandi County, was seriously injured at the foot, chest, neck and head by his elder sibling

According to Kipchumba, he visited his elder brother’s house and found a plate of ugali on the table.

Hungry, he helped himself to the meal only for his brother to appear shortly afterward.

When his found out that Kipchumba consumed his ugali, he descended on him with a thorny stick.

Bloodied after the savage beating, Kipchumba was forced to crawl to his house as he sought for safety.

James Too, who is an uncle to the two siblings, condemned the beating adding that it is unreasonable to harm someone seriously just because of food.

Kipchumba will now have to spend his Christmas in hospital as he continues to receive treatment.

This comes barely three months after a 23-year-old man hacked his mother to death and injured his brother while fighting over ugali in Vihiga County.

Benson Kilonzo, the County police boss confirmed the incident and said trouble started when Ismael Bwabi realized that his portion of ugali was smaller compared to his brother.

He demanded to know why his mother had served ‘with bias’ and a fight ensued.

The mother intervened and tried to reconcile her sons, and that is when Bwabi hacked her to death and later hang himself.
