Man behind Sabina Chege con game arrested in Tanzania

Police have arrested a man who had allegedly been extorting money from Members of Parliament.

Wazir Boniface Chacha was arrested on Sunday morning in Tarime, Tanzania, with the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti saying he was planning to flee to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The DCI boss said Mr. Chacha was nabbed following a well-coordinated operation between Kenyan and Tanzania security teams.

Mr. Chacha had allegedly registered a phone number using the name of Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege and was using it to defraud lawmakers.

“He used an ID number of a former member of parliament to register an M-Pesa account in the name of Sabina Wanjiku Chege. He did this in Donholm and we have all the details,” Mr. Kinoti told Parliament’s Security Committee a week ago.

Last week, a team of detectives was dispatched to trace and apprehend Mr. Chacha after it emerged that he had gone into hiding.
