Man burns down his house to kick out second wife

A family in Mbuvori, Embu North is in shock after their son set ablaze his house in a bid to eject his second wife who had refused to accommodate his first wife.

Mugendi Murithii set his house on fire at Gakongoro village after his second wife refused to welcome back his first wife who had gone to visit her parents only to find another woman in the house.

According to the man’s mother, Beth Wawira, the second wife was angry after it was decided that the first wife would stay at home and then the second wife would find a house at Mbuvori shopping centre courtesy of her husband.

The mother said that the second wife was not happy with the decision and declined to leave, which led to the husband torching his house.

Nothing was salvaged from the fire that consumed even his parents’ belongings.

The 37-year-old Muriithi then attacked his father, injuring him on the face. In response, his brothers beat him up him but he managed to escape and is still at large.

The first wife sustained injuries from the fire and returned back to her parent’s home while the second wife disappeared.

While confirming the incident, Embu North OCPD Mark Wanjala said that they are in pursuit of the suspect and once he is arrested he will be charged with assault and arson.

Wanjala also noted that drug abuse has been the key cause of family wrangles in the area and urged parents to report any cases of drug abuse by their children for action to be taken immediately.

He said that they have received many such cases but also blamed parents for complicating the disciplinary process since most of them withdraw cases against their children when in court, leading to the children repeating the same mistakes.
