Man charged for calling MP Cecily Mbarire a prostitute

A middle aged man was on Thursday charged at a Embu court with threatening to kill Runyenjes Member of Parliament Cecily Mbarire.

Arasto Gitonga Mwita, who appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Paul Nandi, denied the allegations.

The court was told that on May 30th, 2015 at Kanja South sub location, Embu County without authority threatened to kill Cecily Mbarire through a mobile text.

In the first count, the accused is said to have written an SMS to the MP; “Nitapanga njama u die like MP Muchai. I Promise u, u will not see the next election (I will ensure that you die like MP George Muchai. I promise that you will not live to see the next election).”

The second count the accused faced was the improper use of licensed telecommunication system.

The court heard that May 30th, 2015 at Kanja, Embu County by means of a licensed telecommunication system namely Safaricom through mobile number 0734 8****1 sent an abusive message  to number 0722 4****6 which belonged to Hon Cecily Mbarire.

Gitonga has sent a message to Mbarire saying; “Usichukue simu maraya ya mwanamke, loosely translated as Do not pick my calls you prostitute.”

The prosecution sought that the accused be detained at Manyatta Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.

The magistrate granted the application by the prosecution and ordered that the accused be arraigned in court on June 8th, 2015 when the case will be heard.

Among the witness lined up in the case includes the legislator.
