Man charged in court over contaminated meat

A man suspected to have been in possession of highly contaminated meat weighing 150 kilograms has been charged in a Nyeri court.

James Karuri was arrested by police officers at his homestead in Njogu-ini village in Kieni West, Nyeri County for being in possession of uninspected beef which he intended to sell to the residents.

The accused was also charged for being in possession of two kilograms of bhang and two liters of busaa at that particular place and time.

Karuri pleaded innocent before Nyeri Resident Magistrate Catherine Mburu but was ordered to deposit a bond of Sh 50,000 with a surety of a similar amount.

Public Health officer Dennis Mwaniki told the court that upon receiving information from the area public health officer, they raided the homestead and nabbed the suspect who was intending to sell the infected meat.
