Man Charged with Fish Theft

Richard Fundi, who was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Robinson Oigara, pleaded guilty of the offence.

When the charges were read to him, Fundi defended himself by saying that he had wandered into the fish pod which he thought was a natural dam.

He added that this was after spending too much money on her daughter’s medication in a bid to find a cure for the cough which was still persistent but was later adviced to look for fish and feed her.

The accused said that he then decided to visit the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KARLO) pod and fish only to be arrested.

Fundi then pleaded with the court to be lenient and consider a non custodial sentence since he was the bread winner of the young family.

The Magistrate ordered that the accused appear in court on May 26th upon which the probation report will be ready to ascertain whether he is fit for non custodial sentence.

Fundi was charged that on May 21st, he stole fish considered to be property of the organization.
