A 26-year-old man was on Wednesday arraigned in an Eldoret court and charged with the brutal murder of the wife of former Kakamega District Commissioner (DC) Paul Yatich.

Boniface Kiptoo was arraigned before Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Harrison Barasa and charged with three counts of murder, handling of stolen property and robbery.

The court was told that he committed the offence between October 13 and October 14, 2018 at Kibulgeny area in Soy Sub-county, Uasin Gishu County.

The court heard that, jointly with others not before the court, Kiptoo killed the deceased using a blunt object before stealing her household property including a vehicle, two ATM cards whose accounts contained about Ksh.700,000.

The State opposed a request by the accused to be released on bail arguing that he was a flight risk.

Prosecutor Thomas Mwaura told the court that there was a likelihood that the accused would abscond court if released on bail, noting that he neither has a known abode nor is his parent’s residence known.

The magistrate agreed with the prosecution and directed that the accused be remanded.

The hearing of the case was set on November 15, 2018.

The body of Loice Yatich, 60, was found on Tuesday, October 16 in one of the rooms in her house at Kiplombe area in the outskirts of Eldoret town.

Loice was a Curriculum Development Officer with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Uasin Gishu County.

According to Eldoret West Police boss Zakariah Birok the woman’s body had deep cuts and police suspect that she was raped before being killed.

Mr. Bitok said the husband of the deceased had reported that his wife was missing which prompted investigations that led to the shocking discovery.
