Man charged with raping mentally challenged woman in Embu

A 22-year-old man was on Wednesday arraigned in court and charged with sexually assaulting a mentally challenged woman at Kathagariri village in Embu North sub-county, Embu County.

Appearing before Embu Chief Magistrate Maxwell Gicheru, the accused; Andrew Munene Njogu denied the offence.

Munene was charged that on October 15, 2018 at around 1pm at Kathangariri village, he intentionally and unlawfully sexually assaulted the woman whose mental status is known to be challenged.

The accused was reportedly walking home on said day before meeting the woman and luring her to a nearby bush where he raped her.

A passerby who sought to pee in the bush, caught the accused red-handed in the act with the woman and raised alarm during which he (accused) escaped but was later arrested.

He was released on a Ksh.200,000 bond and surety of a similar amount and the case was set for January 4, 2019.
