Man commits suicide at Catholic church in Kirinyaga

A Sunday service at Nyangati St. John Catholic church in Kutus, Kirinyaga County was briefly disrupted after a 26-year-old man committed suicide within the church compound.

The body of the deceased was discovered by one of the worshippers who raised an alarm alerting other church members.

The deceased identified as Dennis Bundi was found dangling from a tree with a rope tied around his neck.

The Church chairman, Mr. Michael Gichinga, said they could not immediately establish why the man committed suicide.

The church service continued after the body was taken away by police officers from Wang’uru Police Station.

This was the third suicide case to be reported in the area in a span of less than a week.

On Friday, two people committed suicide over unclear circumstances.

Simon Kinyua aged 4O committed suicide at Kanjata village in Kutus location. According to Kutus Chief Nancy Gichuki, Kinyua had told his friends he would kill himself after his friend was gunned down over robbery in Thika.

Kinyua was suspected to be a member of a gang involved in robbery cases in Central region.

Still on Friday, 32-year-old Daniel Mwaniki from Ngomongo Village in Kirinyaga Central hanged himself in his house following alleged domestic wrangles with his wife.
