Man commits suicide over fear of being sued

A middle-aged man from South East Karungu Location in Nyatike Sub County has committed suicide over what is suspected to be fear of litigation after his brother threatened to sue him over assault.

The body of the deceased, Daniel Okombo, was morning found on Thursday by his sister-in-law dangling on a tree behind the house of the brother who had reportedly threatened to sue him.

South East Karungu Location Chief Mr Jim Kawa said the deceased who hacked the brother severally using a panga earlier this week after a disagreement over family issues, had unresolved issues with the brother who has been trying to seek justice through the courts.

Mr Kawa said the family had called for a meeting to resolve the matter at the family level but the complainant insisted that he must seek for justice through the courts.

He said they suspect the brother’s demand for justice is what compelled the brother to commit suicide.

The area chief said the naked body was found by the deceased’s sister-in-law on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, Kawa noted that he is planning a meeting with elders in the area to address the rampant cases of suicide and seek solutions to the problem.

He said over nine people have committed suicide while many others have attempted suicide in the region since the begging of this year, a number he said has raised concern among members of the community.
