Man denies breaking into Equity bank

A 27-year-old has denied charges of breaking into Equity Bank, Thika branch with intent to commit a felony.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Theresa Murigi, Vincent Murerwa Munene pleaded not guilty to the charges but the Thika court allowed police to remand him for two extra days.

Murerwa is accused of breaking into the bank on April 7 and 8 with others not before court. He is said to have gained entry to the bank through the roof where he later cut window grills using a hacksaw to access the banking hall.

Thika OCPD Willy Simba had earlier told press that the suspect is also connected with a Ksh.100,000 theft at an M-Pesa shop in Thika town.

Simba said that police were alerted by bank CCTV operators from Nairobi and found him in possession of crude weapons believed to have been used to try and break into the strong room.
