Man dies as well collapses on him

A man died after a well that he was fetching water from collapsed on him in Tana River’s Konekatili village.

According to an eye witness who spoke to Bahari FM, the man was buried alive as he was trying to fetch water for his livestock.

Efforts to rescue him, however, were futile.

The incident comes barely a week after yet another man from Assa area in the Tana Delta region died under similar circumstances.

Speaking at the Mashujaa Day celebrations, Tana River Governor, Hussein Dado, said Tana River County is among the most affected by drought.

He said that over 70,000 families and their livestock are risk following the prolonged drought.

“Most wells dug by the county government have run dry. We have been forced to supply water to almost 154 villages,” said Governor Dado.

He said it has not been easy for the county government since it spends close to Ksh 3 million per day to supply water.
