Man dies in suspected alcohol poisoning incident

A 33-year-old man died in Kiambu County on Friday after drinking alcohol suspected to be laced with a poisonous substance.

The deceased, Simon Ngugi, was discovered with a bottle of vodka at his bedside on Friday.

On Thursday, Ngugi shared an evening meal with his family and that was the last time his brother Karanja Wangui saw him alive.

The same evening, a neighbor says he spotted Ngugi drunk. The neighbor, who later rushed Ngugi to Gatundu Hospital, said that the deceased had been complaining of stomach pains.

Sadly,  the 33-year-old died while receiving treatment at the hospital and his bosy was taken to Gatundu Mortuary for post mortem examinations.

Ngugi’s death comes barely a month after Gatong’ora residents, in the same County, stormed a new brewery and destroyed alcoholic drinks worth millions of shillings.

During the raid, residents discovered that more than 300 hundred cartons of the second generation alcohol.

Gatong’ora MCA, George Gitau, said the county government had partnered with the national government to ensure the war against illicit brew was won.

He commended the members of the public for taking action by destroying the illicit liquor and encouraged them to continue with such efforts.

Illicit brew manufacturers have been put on notice since early this year after the president declared all second generation drinks be dealt with mercilessly.
