Man drowns in Lake Victoria, wife rescued

A 34-year-old man drowned in Lake Victoria after he and his wife fell from Goye Bridge in Bondo on Friday evening.

The wife was rescued but the man is yet to be found.

Francis Odhiambo and his wife Irene Anyango are said to have been traveling to the nearby Osieko beach on a motorbike when they lost control and plunged into the lake.

According to an eyewitness, Nahum Okila, fishermen at Goye beach rushed to the scene but were unable to get to the man in time.

Bondo Deputy OCPD Ezekiel Akanga told Citizen Digital that the motorbike knocked the rail guards at the bridge before plunging into the lake.

The police boss also said the woman was rushed to Got-Agulu hospital where she was treated and discharged.

The search for the man’s body is still ongoing, he added.
