Man drowns just a day before his wedding

A 25 year-old man died Friday evening after the vehicle he was travelling in plunged into Kirandich dam in Kabarnet.

The deceased, John Mwangi, had travelled with a friend to Kabarnet on Friday morning. Mwangi was meant to pick up his fiancée’s parents and take them to Subukia in Nakuru County to attend his wedding which was scheduled for Saturday.

During the trip, Mwangi and his friend decided to take a tour of the Kindarich Dam. After taking some pictures, they boarded the car to continue with their journey.

Their trip took a turn for the worse when their vehicle cut the perimeter wire and plunged over 40 feet into the dam.

His friend managed to open the door and swim to safety, but Mwangi could not.  Efforts to recover his body remained futile as divers from Kerio River only retrieved the vehicle.

His friend was taken to hospital for minor bruises and counselling as he was traumatised by the ordeal.
