Man electrocuted while attempting to make illegal power connections

A middle-aged man was electrocuted at Achage Junction along the Siaya-Bondo road after attempted to illegally connect power from a nearby transformer.

The deceased, only identified as Kingi, died while undergoing treatment at the Siaya County Referral Hospital after he received massive burns following the electrocution.

According to an eyewitness, the suspect was in the company of three others when he climbed the electricity poles.

However, apart from the boots, metal clips and ropes that they were carrying, they did not have any other protective gear that would affiliate them with Kenya Power as was being suspected by members of the public.

It is alleged that the deceased, who was always in the company of other people, had visited the scene severally before.

Kenya Power County Business Manager Calvin Odhiambo refuted claims that the deceased was an employee of the company, adding that he had not been contracted.

Odhiambo said that the deceased had encroached their network, interfering with power supply in the county.

He regretted that the company has had its transformers and electric cables vandalised by people masquerading as employees of the company.

He urged members of the public to be wary of such people so as to avoid illegal and dangerous connections and further electrocution incidences.

A week ago, another middle-aged man died after being electrocuted.

The man met his death when a branch of a tree he was cutting fell on a high voltage electricity line, killing him instantly.
