Man gets seven years for killing wife

A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after he was found guilty of killing his wife after she allegedly stole his money.

Appearing before the Kisii High Court, Eliakim Ombati was charged with the offence of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with the agreement dated on 24/5/2016 reduced to a lesser charge of manslaughter contrary to Section 202 as read with Section 205 of the Penal Code.

The accused was charged that on February 29th, 2016 at Onseka sub location in Ibencho location Kenyenya Sub County, he unlawfully caused the death of Evelyne Mokeira.

It is reported that the man and wife had a quarrel over the allegation that the deceased had stolen money which belonged to the accused.

According to an eye witness, the quarrel escalated and ended when the accused cut the deceased with a panga on the head, neck, and right hand and therefore killing her instantly before fleeing from the scene.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter and was consequently convicted on his own plea of guilty.
