Man goes insane after failing to get justice for defiled daughter

A middle-aged man who has been seeking justice for his daughter who was defiled in Baringo County has reportedly gone insane after his efforts to see the suspect behind the heinous act apprehended proved futile.

The man, who hails from Kaptepereiwo Location in Baringo North Sub County, has been pushing since last week to see the suspect who defiled his 9-year-old Class Three daughter arrested, but the accused is still walking free.

According to the area Chief, the accused is a 24-year-old man identified as Jonnah Rotich alias ‘Namnam’ who is said to have committed the act on Saturday, June 9.

Addressing media in Kabarnet town on Wednesday, the chief said a warrant of arrest is yet to be issued against the suspect.

“Yes, he is still at home despite an earlier push for his arrest… After going through the medical report, police in Kabartonjo found the young girl’s health on stable condition and were reluctant to arrest the culprit,” said the chief.

The apparent reluctance by the authorities to arrest the suspect is believed to have caused psychological torture to the elderly man who is admitted at Kabarnet Referral Hospital.

The Chief further disclosed that the suspect, who is reported to be primary school dropout, has been terrorizing young girls and women in the village.

“I helped in arresting the suspect last year and handed him to the police over a similar act he did to another minor, but the family intervened by requesting the matter be handled at home,” said the Chief.

According to a statement recorded on the incident, on the fateful day, the girl was sent by her mother at around noon to pick her younger brother from a nearby private school, and while on her way she met with the suspect, who dragged her into a nearby forest, about 200 meters from her home, defiled her before escaping.

The suspect is reportedly well known to the girl.

“But due to her fear and discomfort she reported the matter to her mother on Monday June 11,” narrated the father on Tuesday.

The girl rushed to Kabartonjo Sub-county Hospital for check-up before she was later referred to Baringo County Referral Hospital in Kabarnet town.

The doctor’s report reads: “The child’s  health condition is fair after claiming to have been defiled by a person known to her on the way while collecting her young brother in school.”

“Even after presenting to them medical report indicating that my daughter was defiled, police are yet to arrest the suspect,” said the heartbroken father.

When contacted over the issue, Baringo North Criminal Investigations Department Officer (CID) Andolo Munga said he had just heard of the case, promising to probe the matter and have the suspect arrested immediately.

Addressing the media after attending Day of African Child celebrations on Tuesday, Baringo County Director of Children Services Omuse accused the Sub-County police Criminal Investigative Department of laxity saying the suspect ought to have been arrested.
