Man kills son, 6, after police ignore mothers cry for help

Police in Embu Town have launched investigations into an incident where a man hacked his 6-year-old son to death before attempting suicide by consuming poison following a domestic quarrel on Tuesday.

According to Embu West OCPD Francis Sang, the man, Edward Robert Mukuria, had fought with his wife, Jackline Mukuria, on Monday evening where he overpowered her and managed to take their son away from her.

Jackline reported the matter to Embu Police Station and requested police to accompany her to her house to pick up her son since she felt the boy was not safe.

Her request however went unheeded, leading her to camp at the police station for hours after she was told that the police vehicle did not have fuel, despite the fact that her house was a walking distance from the police station.

In the morning when Jackline in the company of police officers went to her house they found the boy and the father lying in a pool of blood. Mr Mukuria had killed his son, Pius Mukuria and consumed a poisonous substance in an attempt to commit suicide.

Jackline collapsed on site and was rushed to Embu Level 5 Hospital for treatment while her son’s body was taken to the hospital’s mortuary.

Mr Mukuria was also taken to hospital to save his life, with the police boss saying that he would be arraigned in court after he is well.

Police officers in the area have however come under sharp criticism for not acting on the matter as soon as it was reported, with many saying that the boy’s life would have been saved if action had been taken immediately.

Meanwhile, residents of Tinamoi village in Tenges, Baringo South sub-County are in mourning after a 7-month pregnant woman was hacked to death by her husband before he committed suicide on Tuesday.

According to area Assistant Chief David Chepyator, the Paul Rotich, 35, slit his wife’s throat after a bitter domestic quarrel then moved a few kilometres away where he hanged himself.

The two who are said to have been having frequent domestic fights are survived by seven children.

Their bodies were transferred to the Kabarnet County Referral Hospital as police launch investigations into the incident.

Residents who spoke to Citizen Digital said cases of murder have been rampant in the area, adding that two women were hacked to death last year by unknown assailants.
