Man hacks wife to death, commits suicide in Migori

A 35-year-old man on Monday morning committed suicide in Central Kadem, Migori County, after killing his wife following domestic disagreements.

Jack Marire hang himself using a rope inside a gold mine after hacking to death his 27-year-old wife.

Confirming the incident, Central Kadem location Chief Hezron Odek said Mr. Marire on Sunday night attacked his wife, who was asleep, with a machete, hacking her several times.

She reportedly died while being rushed to Migori Level Four Hospital while the man’s body was later found hanging inside the goldmine in what is suspected to be suicide.

Mr. Odek added that preliminary investigations had established that the deceased couple, who have been operating a shop at Nyakwere trading centre in Nyatike, have been having disagreements over some money; Ksh.240, 000.

He, however, added that they are yet to establish what the cash was for, who had it and why it was bringing conflict between the two.

Mr. Odek said they suspect the money under contention was in custody of the woman since the man was previously heard by family members demanding for it from his then seemingly adamant wife.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
