Man in court for stabbing father 18 times

A 25-year-old man accused of stabbing his father 18 times has been arraigned in court.

The suspect, Michael Owino Amolo, known as Amolo Junior, was arraigned at the Milimani Court in Nairobi to face murder charges.

Owino is accused of stabbing his dad, Dr Michael Amolo, 18 times, something that resulted to his death.

Owino, however, did not plead to the charges after the judge doubted his mental stability to take plea.

Justice Jessy Lesiit, instead, ordered the prosecution to present the accused at Mathare Mental Hospital for a check up to ascertain his mental state before proceeding with the case.

When his matter was read out, he interjected and told the court that he needed no lawyer from the state as he is a qualified lawyer who can represent himself.

He told the court that there was no complainant in the case hence the case should be thrown out.

When journalists started to take his photos, he stood and posed for pictures while smiling. On several occasions, the accused ignored also police directions.

This happened even after the prosecution led by Catherine Mwaniki told the court that the accused had been assessed and was fit to face trial.

The case will be mentioned on June 8th, 2016 when the court will receive the doctor’s report on his mental stability to determine when he will plead to the charges.

The 57-year-old Dr Amolo was a medical practitioner at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.
