Man in Magistrate assault case wants more time

A court case against 34-year-old Michael Kuhora who attacked a Magistrate inside a Nakuru Court has failed to kick off after lawyer failed to appear in court.

Kuhora has asked Nakuru Chief Magistrate, Josphat Burudi, for more time for his lawyer to attend trial after prosecution availed four witnesses, including the magistrate, to testify against the accused.

The accused is already serving a three-year sentence for assaulting and causing bodily harm to Edith Adhiambo and attempted murder for attacking Resident Magistrate, Eunice Kelly, and officer Regina Wanjiru after Kelly delivered her ruling.

Kuhora is alleged to have stabbed the magistrate with a screw driver on her hand and neck and the officer on her arm and also broke her finger on November 22, 2016.

He faces an extra charge of obstructing the Magistrate and officer from performing their duties, charges he had denied but his bid to be freed on bond was rejected as he is serving a jail term and is deemed a ‘threat’ to public safety.

The hearing has been adjourned to April 18, 2017.
