Man in Rongo jailed for 28 years over abduction, rape

A court sitting in Rongo has sentenced a man to 28 years in prison after he was found guilty of abducting and raping a 34-year-old woman last year.

Calvince Owiro Hilter had been arrested on May 30 and charged with the crime that occurred at Awendo Sub County.

Rongo Resident Magistrate Raymond Langat handed him a 20-year sentence for rape and another eight for abduction.

The man was also found guilty of demanding money from the victim’s family.

His crimes are contrary to section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act No.3 of 2006.

The court established that the convict has been linked to other cases of abduction in Awendo Sub County before he was arrested by police.

The suspect has 14 days to appeal the court decision failure to which he will serve his 28-year jail term.
