Man jailed for 60yrs for rape, infecting girl,9, with HIV/AIDS in Eldoret

An Eldoret court has sentenced a man to 60 years in prison after he was found guilty of rape and infecting the 9-year-old girl with HIV/AIDS.

Vincent Yabwetsa Handa, 41, had appeared before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa on Wednesday.

He committed the offence between February 20 and October 12, 2016 at his home at Kambiyu, Uasin Gishu county.

According to witnesses, Handa offered the girl money and then warned her against telling anyone what had happened.

The Magistrate sentence him to 30 years in jail for the first offence of defilement and another 30 years for infecting her with the disease.

He will serve the two jail terms concurrently.
