Man killed by alleged drunk cops after fight with father over camel

A 27-year-old man from Boka area in Tana River County was allegedly shot dead by police in Bangale trading centre after a domestic fight with his father turned ugly.

“The father of the deceased arrived at the shopping centre with the son’s camel, the victim confronted him and guided the camel back home,” said an eyewitness.

“His father then rushed to the nearby police station and returned with two police officers who pursued the deceased for about 5 KM. They eventually caught up to him and it was at that moment that they shot him and he died on the spot.”

Eyewitnesses claim to have counted at least five spent cartridges with only two bullets managing to hit the deceased, on the head and stomach.

The officers involved in the shooting were allegedly drunk when the incident occurred but residents claim no action has been taken against them and are now demanding for justice.

“The Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinett, should look into the matter before people take the law into their hands; the culprits are well-known to us,” said a resident.

Tana North OCPD Tom Okoth insisted he was not aware of the shooting as he was away from the station when the incident occurred.

“In the past police have been killing locals and no action has ever been taken against them. They are only transferred to other police stations in an effort to conceal their crimes,” claimed another resident.
