Man killed by his brother after travelling home for Census

A 56-year-old man in Homa Bay County was on Tuesday killed by his younger brother following a tussle over a piece of land at Kamato Pundo village in Suba North Constituency.

The deceased, Joseph Olale, who worked in Ahero in Kisumu County, had traveled to his rural home in Homa Bay to be enumerated in the 2019 census only to be killed by his brother Ben Olale over an unresolved land dispute.

According to Lambwe West location Chief Daniel Obure, a fight ensued between the two before the suspect hacked his elder brother with a machete.

The chief noted that the incident occurred a few hours after census officials had visited the homestead and enumerated the family.

Mbita Sub-County Police Commander Charles Mwangi said the suspect, who had fled after the incident, has since been arrested and is expected to be arraigned on murder charges.
