Man Killed In Tragic Road Accident, Embu

The man, who is taxi driver in Embu town, is said to have dropped off a passenger at Gathoge trading centre in Kirinyaga County and was returning back to Embu county when the vehicle plunged into the river.

Eyewitnesses said that vehicle was  speeding when it lost control and hit the metal grills at the bridge which separate the Embu and Kirinyaga counties.

Police had a rough time trying to retrieve the vehicle 20 feet under the bridge as the vehicle was extensively damaged while the body of the driver was still trapped inside.

Alice Muthoni, the mother to the deceased, says her son graduated last year with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce and finance and had decided to take up the taxi business after failing to secure a job.

Residents now want the Ministry of Roads and the county of Embu to put up strong concrete rails along the bridge to prevent loss of more lives.

The residents also want the ministry of roads to clear trees and bushes at the bridge which they say block motorists from seeing oncoming traffic.
