Man kills fellow inmate in Kitale prison

Police in Kitale have launched investigations into an incident where an inmate was killed by his fellow inmate at the Kitale Main Prison.

Reports indicate that the two had picked up a quarrel over the weekend before James Ekai hit the deceased, Elvis Simiyu, with his fist on the back of his head and he fell down unconscious.

Confirming the incident, Kitale OCS Daniel Kadenge said that Elvis Simiyu succumbed to the injury on his head while been rushed to Kitale County Hospital.

Both Ekai and Simiyu were imprisoned for 15 years over defilement, although the former had served seven years in jail while the deceased had only served four years.

“James Ekai has since been transferred to Kitale Medium Prison pending investigations after it emerged that fellow inmates wanted to kill him too out of anger,” said OCS Kadenge.

The accused now faces life imprisonment if found guilty of murder.
