Man kills his friend over meal of termites in Tharaka Nithi
A 36-year-old man was on Sunday evening stabbed to death following a disagreement over a meal of termites at Kamatungu village in Tharaka Nithi County.
It is alleged that the suspect; Muriungi wa Kaindi, 30, attacked Daniel Mutiria Wacece after he found him picking termites outside his house.
An argument ensued between the two after Kaindi, a waiter at a local hotel, demanded that Wacece surrenders the insects, claiming that they belonged to him.
According to eyewitnesses, the two began fighting before the suspect picked a knife from his house and stabbed the victim four times on the chest.
The two are reported to have been drunk as they had earlier been spotted at a drinking joint during Mashujaa Day celebrations.
Tharaka South Police Commander Kiprop Rutto confirmed the incident saying the suspect surrendered himself at Marimanti Police Station after escaping a mob baying for his blood.
The body of the deceased who died on the spot was taken to Chuka Hospital mortuary.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
