A 30-year-old man in Pundamilia Village, Murang’a County on Tuesday killed his 22-year-old wife and his two children before committing suicide.

Bernard Kiiru reportedly hacked his family to death before hanging himself in his house.

Residents described Mr Kiiru as a humble man who worked at a nearby farm.

According to Mr Kiiru’s employer Mr John Mwangi, they found his door locked from inside but when they knocked there was no response.

“That is when we broke into the house and found his wife’s and children’s bodies on the floor and he was dangling from the roof,” he said.

Confirming the incident, Murang’a County Police Commander Ms Naomi Ichami said police have launched investigations into the matter.

She further appealed to residents with any information regarding Kiiru’s family to volunteer it to them for faster investigations.

“We have not yet established the reason for these killings but we have started our investigations. Anyone with information about the family that could help us should come forward and help us,” she said.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to General Kago Hospital Mortuary in Thika.
