Man kills wife after New Year’s drinking spree

Police in Siaya County are holding a 33-year-old man who hacked his wife to death following a fight at their home in Achiewo village, Alego/Usonga Sub-county.

Michael Oluoch Owuor was arrested after he went to report the matter at Kogelo Police Station on Thursday evening.

According to the area Assistant Chief, Ezekiel Ochieng’ Owino, the suspect and his wife Lucy Muga had gone on a drinking spree on the evening of January 1, 2020 and returned home drunk before they started fighting.

The man then drew a panga and hacked his 26-year-old wife on the head and face, before he left the house and returned on Thursday evening when he found the wife unconscious.

He went to report the matter to the area assistant chief who referred him to Kogelo Police Station, where he confessed to having beaten up his wife.

The suspect then led the officers to his home where the wife was found lying dead on a pool of blood.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary while the suspect was detained pending arraignment.
