A middle aged man from Tumsifu area, Bahati constituency in Nakuru County is now seeking justice after he was mistakenly shot three times by police attached to Bahati Police Station.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, 34-year-old Bernard Njuguna, claims he was allegedly shot during a burglary incident that took place in the area on September 29, 2017.

“I had just come from work and was resting on my couch. Suddenly, my neighbor came to my door raising an alarm that our neighbors were being attacked by robbers. I got out of the house to try and assist them,” narrated Bernard.

“There were so many gunshots and I thought it best to close the gate to prevent the thugs from entering. Just then, three bullets ran into my body and I became numb. I staggered to my landlord’s house where I lost consciousness.”

As a result of the gunshot wounds, Bernard has since had one arm amputated and a metal plate embedded in the other arm.

According to Bernard, he reported the incident to Bahati Police Station but no follow up of his case was done.

Bernard who has a young family and had been the sole bread winner now says his condition has left him helpless and in despair and with no one to fend for his children.

“Life has really changed for me and my family. I am grateful that am alive but I am not in a position to provide for them the way I used to before because of this, “he said.

“At times my children are sent home for fees and many times we are given food  by ourneighbours,”

Efforts to by Citizen Digital to reach Nakuru North OCPD for comment were futile.
