By Moses Mwendwa

A 43-year-old man narrowly escaped death on Saturday after he was attacked by three elephants in Ndunyuruma village, Kithima Sub-location in Meru County.

Jotham Baariu, a father of two, was in his farm watering onions in the company of a friend when three elephants emerged from a nearby thicket.

Narrating the ordeal at the Isiolo County Referral Hospital where he is nursing injuries, Jotham said the elephants produced a loud rumble prompting him and his friend to flee in different directions, but the jumbos kept following him.

However, one of the elephants grabbed him from behind before trampling on him.

He sustained serious leg and chest injuries.

Confirming the incident, Kithima Sub-location assistant chief Paul Muriira said for several years, the elephants have been troubling residents of Kithima.
