Man on the run after allegedly blowing up house in Nyakach

Bomb squad officers are probing an explosion that occurred inside a house in Katito, Nyakach.

Area police boss Jonathan Koech said the Thursday explosion left two people with serious injuries including an 8-year-old boy.

“A 43-year-old man Odhiambo Ondiek is said to have had a disagreement with his wife before setting up an unidentified object that blew up the house,” Koech said.

According to the police boss, the suspect woke up in the middle of the night and went to an adjacent room.

By the time the explosion occurred, he had already fled from the scene.

The explosion tore apart the mabati house where the man had been living with his wife and son.

A neighbour, Lydia Akinyi, was also injured during the 4am night incident and is being treated at Avenue Hospital together with the boy.

Koech said the suspect’s wife has recorded statements with the police.

She is said to have intimated that her husband threatened to hurt them after they quarrelled.

Officers from the Serious Crime Unit of the National Police Service were still at the scene as at the time of publishing this article.
