Man quarantined in Baringo after exhibiting coronavirus symptoms

One person has been quarantined in Baringo County after he reportedly developed symptoms resembling those of the coronavirus.

The 26-year-old man landed into the country at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from Dubai via Rwanda before travelling to his home near Lake Baringo.

Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis, speaking during the opening of a 10-bed isolation ward in Kaptimbor, said the man has since been taken to Nakuru Provincial hospital where he will be closely monitored for 14 days.

Governor Kiptis also ordered the closure of open market with immediate effect as part of efforts to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.

He also directed matatu operators to provide hand sanitizers and maintain hygiene during travel, further allowing Baringo County staff to work from home.

County Commissioner Henry Wafula has since also ordered closure of all nights clubs as well as public gatherings such as harambees and weddings.

A 47-year-old man had early Tuesday morning been isolated at the Londiani Sub-County Hospital in Kericho County after he also exchibited similar symptoms.
