Man shoots wife, kills self using gun allegedly stolen from police officer

A 30-year-old man committed suicide after shooting and injuring his wife using a gun he allegedly stole from a police officer in Marigat, Baringo County.

Ibrahim Ewoi is alleged to have hoodwinked a police officer at Marigat town by buying him alcohol and soon after the officer got drunk, he escaped with his G3 rifle which he used to commit the heinous act on Sunday evening.

Recounting the ordeal from Baringo Referral Hospital where she was admitted, Purity Elim, 20, said she had separated with her husband of two years after an abusive relationship which forced her to return to her parents home.

According to Elim, her ex-husband had been threatening that he would kill her one day.

She was shot twice on the right leg before her estranged lover directed the gun on his mouth and pulled the trigger, dying on the spot.

Elim says her mother, Esther Ayokoi, who was with their two-year-old son, survived by a whisker when her gun wielding husband came looking for her threatening to kill the entire family including the young boy.

Bartum Location Chief William Chebii, while confirming the incident, said the couple had been embroiled in recurrent domestic disputes.
