Man shot dead, 3 others severely injured in Suguta

A lorry driver was shot dead and three others severely injured following an attack by an armed gang along Lolmorok-Suguta road yesterday evening.

The three female passengers were traveling from Lolmorok trading center to Suguta market to sell their goods when armed bandits merged from a bush and stopped the vehicle.

Confirming the incident, Samburu central AP Commandant Leonard Chebet said the deceased may have tried to disarm one of the men, prompting the attackers to retaliate by stabbing him.

Besides the knife wound, the deceased had a bullet wound on his forehead and deep cuts on his hands and ribs.

The body of the deceased was moved to Samburu County Referral Hospital Mortuary in Maralal, and the injured were rushed to a health facility in Suguta.

Devastated residents of Suguta and Lolmorok area urged the County government to beef up security in the region, claiming that bandits had preyed on people travelling along Lolmorok-Suguta road.

The residents claimed that a motorcycle rider was killed and his motorcycle stolen two weeks ago in the same site.

“We want the County government to reinforce security patrols by issuing police dogs to patrol officers and clearing nearby bushes along the road,” one resident said.

In response, Samburu County Governor Moses Lenolkulal said he will work with the authority in tracking the highway assaulters who once caught will be subjected to harsh punishment.
