The suspect, detectives believe, killed his wife earlier this year before he went into hiding.
According to a police report seen by Citizen Digital, the 35-year-old suspect is believed to have hacked his wife using a machete, killing her on the spot.
“The couple had experienced a troubled marriage and the deceased Nehema George Karisa, had gone back to her parents home in Bamba,” the police report says.
According to detectives, on the fateful day, the suspect walked into his inlaws’ home, claiming he was there to settle a disagreement with his wife.
After hours of making the argument with the deceased’s parents, he persuaded his estranged wife to return to their marital home with their one-year-old child.
An hour later, the mother of one was discovered dead, her body, which had deep cuts on the back of the neck, had been dumped near Jila Chief’s camp in Bamba.
The couple’s one-year-old child was still carefully strapped on the back of the deceased woman with a leso.
After the incident, the suspect went into hiding, and detectives have been looking for him ever since.
On Tuesday, the suspect was spotted by a member of the public while attempting to cross into Tanzania, prompting the arrest.
