A 65-year-old woman from Kiamuturi village in Mathioya Constituency is nursing severe injuries after her son chopped off her hands.
The suspect, Zachary Githiomi, 30, reportedly carried out the henious act and immediately after, went to the Mioro Administration Police Post where he told them he had ‘killed his mother’.
Speaking to journalists on Monday evening, Mathioya OCPD Pauline Mwangi said the suspect said he had used a panga (machete) on Ms Regina Wanjiru.
Witnesses reported that he had been spotted with the machete roaming around the neighborhood days before the incident occurred.
According to the suspect’s brother, Charles Mwangi, this is not the first time that he has tried to kill their mother.
He revealed that several months ago, Githiomi torched the mother’s house which led to his arrest and arraignment in court.
However, the case was later withdrawn after it was said that the matter would be solved out of court, he added.
Doctors at Kiria-ini Mission Hospital said her left hand was completely cut off and the right one slightly severed.
The mother also sustained deep cuts on her left chin in the Monday incident, the medical report adds.
