Man who allegedly killed ex-wifes lover surrenders, says it was his cousin

A man accused of killing his ex-wife’s lover has surrendered himself to the police in Kirinyaga.

Simon Gitari, 40, took himself to Wang’uru Police Station on Thursday.

It has also emerged that the deceased was Gitari’s cousin.

According to Mwea-East OCPD Dorothy Gaitenga, Gitari told her he was not happy with with his cousin Simon Muriithi having an affair with his former wife.

This despite the couple having separated seven years old ago. They have two children.

It is alleged that Gitari, who comes from Kamucege Village in Mwea constituency, stabbed to death his cousin on Wednesday.

Angry residents had been looking for the suspect since the incident.

According to Josephine Wawira, her ex-husband entered her rented house and demanded to know why Muriithi was visiting her.

In a fit of rage, he somehow managed to find a kitchen knife and stab Muriithi to death.

Wawira said she began screaming and her neighbours appeared but Gitari had already escaped.

Meanwhile, Kirinyaga County Commissioner Samson Onjwang has said police are looking for a suspect linked to the murder of a Kirinyaga University student.

The incident occurred at Kutus near Thiba River.

Commissioner Ojwang said over 10 suspects are being held at various police stations after a protest over the murder.

The demonstration at the Kutus-Kagio-Kerugoya junction reportedly led to destruction of property.
