Man who snatched firearm from a cop gunned down in Kayole: DCI

A man who is said to have snatched a gun from a police officer was gunned down in Kayole on Tuesday.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Masood Kimani snatched the firearm from the cop who was on duty at Bee Centre.

“The officer and his two colleagues were handling an unruly crowd at Bee Centre, when the criminal who was a motorbike pillion passenger snatched the firearm. Detectives were immediately deployed and have been on his trail,” said the DCI.

Reports indicate that Masood was cornered alongside an accomplice on Spine Road in Kayole.

DCI sleuths are said to have challenged the duo to surrender but Masood opened fire and was killed during the exchange.

His accomplice who managed to escape was cornered moments later and killed at Dandora bridge, after he reportedly failed to surrender.

“The stolen Police firearm a Ceska Pistol, loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm caliber, was recovered from Masood. Also recovered from the second suspect identified as Dan was a Jericho Pistol,” the DCI said.

The DCI has warned criminals harbouring the idea of snatching a firearm from a police officer will be met with the full force of the law
