Man who stole phone and used it to borrow Ksh.150K arraigned

A man was on Monday arraigned in court for allegedly stealing a phone and using it to borrow over Ksh.150,000 from different financial institutions.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate M. Nanzushi, Evance Okech Adero was accused of borrowing the money from institutions such as Tala, M-Shwari, KCB M-Pesa and Fuliza, and later sending the amount to his personal M-Pesa account.

He was accused of stealing the mobile phone worth Ksh.30,000 at Koinange street on April 10, 2019.

He later used the said gadget to commit electronic fraud by unlawfully transferring money borrowed from financial institutions to his M-Pesa account and that of Sandra Jepchumba Kemboi.

The suspect – who was arrested on June 21, 2019 – pleaded not guilty to counts of electronic fraud and stealing and was released on Ksh.200,000 cash bail or alternative bond of Ksh.400,000.
