Man who threatened to kill Siaya MCA on SMS tells the court he sent message by mistake

Gabriel Akoth who appeared before resident Magistrate Muthoni Mwangi was charged with the offence of threatening life.

The court heard that on February 29, 2020 he sent a life threatening message to Mr. Oriaro from his mobile phone.

In the message, he demanded Ksh. 50,000 from the MCA who he accused of driving away a European Investor- Dominion Farms limited- from Yala Swamp.

Further, the prosecution told the court that the accused had allegedly sent the message telling the MCA to send him that money or failure to which he would be eliminated.

The suspect denied the charges claiming he wanted to send the message to a different person but mistakenly sent it to the MCA’s number.

The court slapped him with a bond of Ksh.200,000 and surety of the same amount or an alternative cash bail of Ksh.40,000.

After the bail ruling, the suspect pleaded for leniency arguing that he would neither be able to raise the bond nor the cash bail.

The Magistrate dismissed his plea and ordered that he be remanded at the Siaya G.K prison until March 23, 2020 when the case will be mentioned.
