Man whose family opposed plan to marry second wife found dead inside church

Police in Migori are investigating the death of a man who is alleged to have committed suicide in church after his family turned down plans to marry a second wife.

Mr. Lawrence Oluru, who spoke on behalf of the family, said George Matinde got upset after they opposed his intentions to marry again.

The 20-year-old musician had apparently informed the family that he wanted to marry a woman from Nairobi.

However, they told him that he is too young to marry a second wife.

The response did not go down well with Matinde and he left his home in God Ongoche village, Suna East on Thursday night in protest.

The family is said to have become worried after he failed to return and they began searching for him, only for the body to be discovered hanging inside a church.

According to Mr.Oluru, the deceased had previously attempted to take his own life but family members restrained him.
